In 1907, Thomas I. Gasson, the 13th president of Boston College, made a significant decision. He realized the school had outgrown its crowded campus in Boston's South End and bought the Lawrence farm six miles west of the city. Then, he started creating a master plan for a “new” university on Chestnut Hill, with Gasson Hall as the centerpiece. This hall has remained one of the most famous buildings on BC's campus and has influenced collegiate Gothic architecture in North America.
