Since 1912, Notre Dame hockey has had a rich history, evolving from club to varsity. In 1968, its modern era began as a Division I independent team. They later joined the WCHA from 1971 - 1981. This design, inspired by a Notre Dame hockey puck, honors the time when coach Lefty Smith led the Fighting Irish.
