George "Tirebiter", famous for chasing cars through campus, first graced USC football games in 1940. He won Trojan fans' hearts by chasing Cal's Oski bear mascot up a goalpost, biting UCLA's Joe Bruin, and leading the USC marching band onto the field at home games. In 1947, he was named the university's official mascot. He was succeeded by George II and George III, and the line of "Tirebiters" was eventually replaced by Traveler, the white Andalusian horse. In 2006, USC unveiled a statue to honor their much - loved dog mascots.
