The 1980 - 81 Beavers men's basketball squad, nicknamed the “Orange Express”, had an incredible 26 - 0 record and were ranked #1 in the nation for eight weeks! After winning the conference championship with a 17 - 1 record, All - American center Steve Johnson was named the Pac - 10 Player of the Year and legendary coach Ralph Miller won the 1981 AP Coach of the Year award. From 1980 to 1990, Oregon State played in the NCAA tournament eight times and won five regular season conference titles, but the 1981 team remains the most beloved in Oregon.
